Chapter Eleven

“Good morning, Elliot!” Iris sang as she skipped into the building.

Elliot grinned. “Good morning to you, too, sunshine. Have a good weekend?”

“The best! Oh! I brought you something!” Iris handed him a bag and watched him pull a Rangers bobble head out of it.

“Calhoun is one I don’t have!” He stood up and pulled her into a hug. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. I saw it at the gift shop, and I knew you’d been looking for his.”

Leaning against his desk, he picked the bobble head up. “You went to the game?”

“Yep.” Iris was practically bouncing on her toes. “Cymric surprised me with tickets.”

They both looked toward the door when it opened and Finn walked in.

“Morning.”

“Good morning.” Iris grinned. “You need coffee.”

“I need you to dial back the excitement, it’s Monday.” Finn turned to Elliot. “Jasper is supposed to meet me for lunch. You can just send him back when he gets here.”

“No, problem.” Elliot nodded. “How’s he doing?”

“He’s surviving.” Finn shrugged. “After what he witnessed, it’s the best we can hope for.”

“Hopefully after I find the people responsible, he’ll be able to heal a bit.” Iris waved at Elliot as she followed Finn toward her office.

“No more long days without food.” Finn glanced at her.

“I know. I know.” She rolled her eyes. “You’re not my boss, you know.”

“Care to test that, brat?” Crossing his arms over his chest, he fixed her with a glare. “I’ve got some time to drag you downstairs and remind you what happens when my girls don’t take care of themselves.”

She was pretty sure he wouldn’t do it, but the last time he looked at her like that, she’d had to sit easy for a few days. Deciding not to test him, she grinned and held up the bag in her hand. “No thank you. I brought snacks today.”

“I hope your boyfriend enjoys your antics as much as the rest of us do,” Finn told her, chuckling as he shook his head.

“He does, but he doesn’t threaten my ass every time he doesn’t get his way.”

“That’s his loss.” Finn followed her into her office. “Did you enjoy your weekend off?”

“I did, actually.” Turning her computers on, she sat in her chair and faced him. “It was refreshing to unplug for a minute. It won’t happen again for a while, though.”

“I’m not surprised.” Laughing, he moved to the door. “You look happy, and I like that look on you.”

“I am.”

Tobias stepped into her office with a smirk. “How’d your weekend away from work go?”

“Perfect.” Iris narrowed her eyes. “Cymric took me to Comic-Con and then a Rangers game. We had good food and great sex. So, thank you for ‘punishing’ me.”

“On that note, I’m out.” Finn disappeared down the hall.

“I wasn’t punishing you, Iris.” Stepping inside, Tobias moved toward her. “I was saving you from yourself.”

“You were mad and thought I’d spend the weekend sitting around twiddling my thumbs.” Iris crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back in her chair.

“Fine.” Sighing, he shook his head. “Maybe I was punishing you a little.
